Cottonmouths Goalie Travis Bosch Receives Call-Up
January 17, 2014 - SPHL (SPHL)
Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announce that goaltender Travis Bosch has been loaned to the Denver Cutthroats of the Central Hockey League. A familiar face will join the Snakes for their home game on Saturday night against the Fayetteville FireAntz as Ian Vigier, the SPHL's all-time leader in minutes played as a goaltender, will serve as the emergency backup goalie that night.
Vigier will suit up Saturday as the emergency backup behind goaltender Andrew Loewen. Vigier and Loewen were the primary two goaltenders for the Cottonmouths from 2010-11 until last season, when Vigier retired as the SPHL's all-time leader in minutes played. He claimed the record and also recorded his 100th pro victory in his last game on March 23, 2013, a 2-1 overtime win against Augusta. Like Bosch, Vigier picked up a shutout for Columbus in just his second professional start as well, a 2-0 win at Jacksonville on November 3, 2007. He was named to the SPHL All-Rookie team in 2007-08 and was an All-SPHL second team selection in both 2008-09 and 2009-10. He was named to the All-SPHL First Team and received SPHL Goaltender of the Year and SPHL Playoff Most Valuable Player honors in 2011-12 as he guided the Cottonmouths to their second league championship. Among his career totals, Vigier currently ranks second in the SPHL in games appeared (192), second in wins (94 - Vigier earned six wins in the ECHL), and fourth in shutouts (6). He finished with a career 2.89 goals-against average and .913 save percentage.
"Ian is very excited just to be able to put his equipment on again, even if just for a game," said Cottonmouths head coach Jerome Bechard. "It's just in his blood."
Playing in his rookie season for Columbus, Bosch has amassed a 4-6-1 record in 11 appearances with one shutout, a 3.06 goals-against average, and a .901 save percentage. Like Vigier, Bosch recorded a shutout in just his second professional game as well, a 5-0 win on November 9 at Bloomington. He has allowed three or fewer goals in eight of his 11 games between the pipes for the Cottonmouths.
"Travis had a good opportunity to go, but he wanted to make sure it was the right one and was alright with me first," said Bechard.
The Snakes will host Military Night tomorrow against the Fayetteville FireAntz at the Columbus Civic Center. Not only will the Cottonmouths wear special military jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game, but teams from Fort Benning and Fort Bragg will face off in a special 6 PM EST game before the Columbus-Fayetteville contest.
