Bloomington Thunder News Release

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Thunder gave up two goals in 48 seconds late in the first period were the only tallies in the game as the Peoria Rivermen picked up a 2-0 win on Friday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

A controversial too-many-men penalty against the Thunder late in the first period led to both Rivermen goals. Garrett Vermeersch wristed his 14th goal against Bloomington from the slot just after an earlier Thunder penalty expired for a four-on-four goal with 1:42 remaining, then Justin Gvora batted in a rebound on the remaining power play with 54 seconds left for the two-goal advantage at the first break.

Kyle Rank earned a 35-save shutout while B.J. O'Brien stopped 31 shots in the loss. Each team was given seven power plays with the Rivermen converting once. The Thunder stay in tenth place with a record of 11-18-1 while the Rivermen remain in fifth place with a mark of 15-11-3.

The squads rematch on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. and Sunday at 3:15 p.m., both in Carver Arena of the Peoria Civic Center. Pre-game on WJBC.com and America One Sports video begins 15 minutes before face-off. The Thunder return to U.S. Cellular Coliseum next Thursday and Friday at 7:05 each evening to face the Fayetteville FireAntz. Group and multi-game discounts are available by calling the Thunder office at 309-434-2980.
