Ice Bats Drop The Ball Against Corpus
December 31, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Austin Ice Bats News Release
(Corpus Christi, TX) - In the three games they've played this year between Austin and Corpus Christi, each outcome was decided by a goal...two of those games needed a shootout to decide the victor. On New Year's Eve, the Ice Bats entered the American Bank Center with a 1-2 season record against the Rayz. Three first period goals by the Rayz were enough to pull out the win. The final was 3-2, Corpus.
Corpus opened things up by scoring the first three goals of the game. Kevin Watters, Adam Powell, and Niko Tuomi all banged home goals for the Rayz. Powell and Tuomi's goals each came on the power play. At the end of the first, it was a 3-0 lead for Corpus Christi.
Ice Bats Coach, Brent Hughes, made a change in net for the second period. Miguel Beaudry was replaced by Doug Groenestege and the change ignited some life into the Bats who scored the only goal of the period to make it a 3-1 deficit. RG Flath banged home the rebound from a Henry Kuster wrist shot. Kuster and Brendan Cook were credited with the assists on Flath's sixth goal of the season. At the end of two periods, it was 3-1, Rayz.
In the third the Ice Bats would once again score in the first two minutes to make it a 3-2 lead. Brendan Cook scored on a rebound to notch his 10th goal of the season. Darryl McArthur and Kuster had the assists. The Ice Bats had a power play opportunity with 2:22 remaining, and pulled the goalie for an extra attacker, but could not tie the game up. Corpus won by a final of 3-2.
Next up the Ice Bats return home to Chaparral Ice Arena for a Friday contest with the Mississippi RiverKings. The puck drops at 7:35 PM and tickets are still available by calling (512) 927-7825 or visiting icebats.com.
