Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

Kannapolis, NC – Kannapolis needed a stopper on the hill. The I's got one. RHP Lucas Harrell spun a gem tossing seven innings of shutout baseball to earn his first victory of the year. Harrell (1-1) worked out of a bases loaded jam in the first and never looked back. He gave up just three hits while striking out five.

Kannapolis took a lead in the fifth inning, when the I's loaded the bases against RHP Paul Estrada. The reliever came in for starter Ronnie Martinez who held the I's scoreless through four. Shoulder tenderness limited Martinez's start. Estrada gave up two in the fifth on a Sean Smith RBI walk and a Boomer Berry sacrifice fly to right.

K-town broke it open against LHP Jeff Wigdahl with four runs on three hits in the seventh. Berry hit a bases clearing double in that inning. Josh Hansen also drove in his team leading 16th run of the year with a wall ball double to score Berry.

Lexington got two in the eighth off of reliever John Hurd, but the right hander closed things up in the ninth to give Kannapolis its 11th win of the year. The Intimidators break a three game skid and snap a 10-game Lexington winning streak.

Game 4 of the series is set for tomorrow night at 7:05 pm at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Following the game the I's will board a bus and ride to Hagerstown, MD for a four game set with the Suns (NY Mets affiliate).
