Captains gain split with first-place Suns

(Eastlake, OH)--The Lake County Captains rallied from a six-run deficit in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader at Classic Park, and gained a split against Hagerstown, losing 4-1 in the first game, but winning the second, 9-7.

Lake County catcher Josh Noviskey keyed the rally with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning that gave the Captains an 8-7 lead. After trailing 7-1, the Captains rallied for four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to grab a 9-7 advantage.

Noviskey went 2-2, with two RBI and two runs scored. he doubled and scored the Captains first run in the third, and chipped in an RBI single in the fourth. His sacrifice fly off Hagerstown's Orlando Rengal (0-1) to deep left field came with the bases loaded in the fifth.

Juan Valdes followed with a single to right, driving in an insurance run. Valdes was also 2-2 in the game.

Josh Harris (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Captains (11-8). Kieran Mattison came on to close the game with a scoreless seventh. It was Mattison's third save.

In game one, Hagerstown's Jose Sanchez scattered three hits over 5 2/3 innings as the Suns won 4-1. Carlos Gomez and Grant Psomas homered off Captains lefty Reid Santos in sixth to lead the Suns (15-5).

The Captains and Suns will play again on Thursday evening at 6:35 at Classic Park (WELW AM 1330).
