METAIRIE, LA - The Iowa Cubs (28-49) came out swinging as they rolled past the New Orleans Baby Cakes (37-41) with a 12-8 victory Wednesday afternoon at the Shrine on Airline.

The carousel started in the first and never stopped, as Iowa tagged starting pitcher Jarlin Garcia (L,0-1) for five runs on six hits in the first. Five consecutive hits, started by Mark Zagunis and Chesny Young, set up RBI by Victor Caratini, Ryan Court, Jason Vosler, Bijan Rademacher, and a sac-fly by Taylor Davis as Iowa ran away with an early lead.

After 11 consecutive games of scoring four or fewer runs, the I-Cubs proceeded to tack on a trio of runs in the second, two in the third and one in the fifth, chasing Garcia after 4.2 with 11 runs on 13 hits.

Young, Davis, Rademacher, Vosler and Court all registered multi-hit games. Court's two-run home run in the second was his second long ball in three games and seventh on the season. The shortstop accounted for almost a third of the run production with four RBI on the day.

Vosler secured his first multi-hit game in Triple-A and added a double, joining Rademacher and Davis for a total of three Iowa doubles on the day. Starter Trevor Clifton joined in on the offensive outburst as well, helping his cause by driving in a run in the third for his first Triple-A hit.

Along with getting his first I-Cub knock, Clifton held the Baby Cakes' offense hitless through 2.1 innings before surrendering his first hit to opposing pitcher Garcia. The righty proceeded to load the bases and give up a pair of walks to push in two before being relieved by Daury Torrez (W, 1-0).

Clifton finished his day going 2.1 innings with three earned runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts for a no-decision.

Iowa added its final run in the eighth, during which Young registered his second three-hit game of the season. A Zagunis hit by pitch and Caratini walk set up a bases loaded walk by Court to extend the lead to 12-3.

Torrez secured his first Triple-A victory. The righty tossed 3.2 innings, giving up just two hits with one walk and three strikeouts, while notching his first professional hit with an RBI single in the fifth.

The Baby Cakes made matters interesting as they cut into their deficit in the eighth - -scoring four runs off Alberto Baldonado and Dakota Mekkes, who allowed two inherited runners to score. New Orleans continued to threaten in the ninth, as Ali Solis made the second position player pitching appearance of the season on the mound. With one out, Isaac Galloway brought the Cakes within one swing of an even game, but the effort fell short, as Solis induced a game-ending 5-4-3 double play.

Iowa and New Orleans wrap up their four-game set at the Shrine on Airline tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. CT. Follow the action on www.iowacubs.com, AM 940, or MiLB.TV.
