Hurricanes Trade Thacker to Royals

LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Thursday they have acquired a fourth-round draft pick in the 2026 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft from the Victoria Royals in exchange for 2002-born forward Alex Thacker.

Thacker, 20, was originally acquired by the Hurricanes at the 2019 WHL Draft from the Swift Current Broncos. The Fort Saskatchewan, AB, product appeared in 162 career games as a Hurricane collecting 113 points (22g-91a) along with 50 penalty minutes. He set a career high in goals (14), assists (50) and points (64) skating in 68 games for the 'Canes during the 2021-2022 season while adding one goal in four WHL Playoff games. Last season, Thacker finished eighth in assists in the Eastern Conference.

"It's a tough move to make, but with (Bryan) Thomson being activated from injury reserve we had to get down to three overagers," said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. "Thacker was a great Hurricane for a long, long time and produced at a very high level for us. We 'd like to thank Alex for everything that he's done as a Hurricane, and we wish him the best moving forward with Victoria.

"With the move, the 'Canes are now down to the WHL maximum three overage players, including: Thomson, Jett Jones and Cole Shepard.

The Hurricanes welcome the Red Deer Rebels on Friday at 7:00pm before welcoming the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday at 7:00pm at the ENMAX Centre.
