Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wappingers Falls, NY (8/11/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Aberdeen IronBirds by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday evening at Dutchess Stadium. With the victory, the Renegades improved their record to 23-27 while Aberdeen falls to 24-26.
The IronBirds flexed their muscles in the top of the first inning as center fielder Cedric Mullins and catcher Chris Shaw each hit solo home runs to give Aberdeen a 2-0 lead.
Hudson Valley struck right back with two run of their own in the bottom of the first inning to tie the score at 2-2. Second baseman Jake Cronenworth and shortstop Michael Russell each walked and after a single by designated hitter Joe McCarthy, the bases were loaded. First baseman Matt Dacey brought in Cronenworth with a RBI sacrifice fly and Russell scored on a RBI single by center fielder Angel Moreno.
Renegades starting pitcher Travis Ott (5-3) settled down nicely after the first inning and did not allow a run over the next four frames.
The 'Gades scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as right fielder Manny Sanchez led off the inning with a single to right field and came around to score on a RBI triple by Moreno. Third baseman Alex Schmidt then drove in Moreno on a RBI single to give Hudson Valley a 4-2 advantage.
Aberdeen cut the Renegades lead to 4-3 in the top of the eighth inning on a two-out RBI single by designated hitter Randy Gassaway. And the IronBirds threatened in the top of the ninth inning as second baseman Drew Turbin hit a ground rule double but Hudson Valley's relief pitcher Reece Karalus recorded the final two outs to pick up his second save of the season
Ott picked up the win for the Renegades as he allowed two runs off five hits in five innings of work while striking out four batters. Francisco Jimenez (2-5) took the loss in relief for Aberdeen as he allowed two runs off five hits in three and two-thirds innings pitched.
Notes: Four different Renegades had multi-hit games on Tuesday including center fielder Angel Moreno, who drove in a pair of runs on a two-for-four effort. Moreno now has eight multi-hit games in 2015 and two multi-RBI games as well. And he has been a steady batter in the Hudson Valley lineup lately as the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native is hitting .270 over his last ten games played.
The Renegades travel to Mahoning Valley to begin a three-game series starting on Wednesday, August 12th with first pitch set 7:05pm.
