Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters fell behind in the top of the first inning but would rally for three runs between the fourth and fifth innings to win the series against West Virginia on Tuesday night at Susquehanna Bank Park. The 5-2 win gives the Cutters a two game winning streak and some momentum as they hit the road for three games in Staten Island. Williamsport remains in first place in the Pinckney Division with a five and a half game lead over State College.

The Crosscutters offense would kick into gear in the bottom of the second inning to answer a pair of runs scored by West Virginia. Jesus Posso picked up the first of his three hits on the night with a double to lead things off. Posso would score two batters later off a sacrifice fly from Jan Hernandez to make it 2-1. The Cutters would tie the game 2-2 on an RBI groundout from Austin Bossart.

Williamsport received another great outing from their starting pitching as Jose Taveras worked past some first inning jitters to work four innings of scoreless baseball. Taveras struck out a season high seven batters while walking just one. The Cutters would give him a lead to work with in the bottom of the fourth inning. Posso lead off the inning with his fifth home run of the season to make it 3-2. Two batters later Hernandez put himself into scoring position with a double and would then swipe third base.

Bossart would extend his hit streak to 16 games and his on base streak to 20 with an RBI single to score Hernandez and make it a 4-2 game. Williamsport would add one final run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Posso scored from third base on a wild pitch to make it 5-2. The Cutters bullpen would shut the door the rest of the way as they combined to toss four shutout innings. Rob Tasin picked up his 10th save of the season with a clean ninth.
