Hudler Returns to Griffins

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday announced that the Detroit Red Wings have assigned center Jiri Hudler (YIH-ree HOOD-luhr) to the American Hockey League team. Hudler, 19, has appeared in seven games with the Red Wings this season, contributing one assist and 10 penalty minutes while averaging 7:45 of ice time.

Detroit's first selection (58th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Hudler enjoyed a stellar Griffins debut on Oct. 24 at Van Andel Arena, earning First Star honors with two goals and an assist in a 4-1 win over Utah. In three games with Grand Rapids, he totaled four points (2-2-4), two penalty minutes and a plus-three rating, before returning to the Red Wings on Oct. 27.

Hudler is expected to be in the Griffins' lineup on Thursday when they host the San Antonio Rampage in a 7 p.m. start at Van Andel Arena.
