Fort Wayne, IN - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (30-22, 68-52) defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps (19-32, 62-58) 8-7 in 10 innings on Wednesday night at Parkview Field. After not being able to hold a 7-1 lead, Marty Gantt doubled home Tyler Goeddel in the top of the tenth inning to break a 7-7 tie and eventually lead the Hot Rods to the victory, breaking the team's three-game losing streak.
After the TinCaps scored a run off Hot Rods starter Reinaldo Lopez in the first, all of the Hot Rods offense in regulation came in the top of the second inning. With no one out and two on, Patrick Leonard lined a home run into the stands in left field to give the Hot Rods a 3-1 lead. The offense kept it going with an Andrew Toles RBI double and a Joey Rickard two-run home run. Gantt capped off the rally with an RBI single, and the Hot Rods led 7-1.
But the TinCaps answered back with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. The TinCaps continued to chip away at the Hot Rods lead and eventually tied the score in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Luis Domoromo solo home run off reliever Jose Molina.
The ninth inning was a scoreless one for both teams. In the top of the tenth inning, Goeddel began the frame with a sharp single to left field before advancing to second base on a passed ball. Leonardo Reginatto then laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Goeddel to third base. That's when Gantt delivered the game-winning RBI double into left field to score Goeddel and deliver upon his third hit and second RBI of the night.
Ryan Garton, who also hurled a scoreless ninth inning, induced a groundout to the catcher with two on and two out in the bottom of the tenth inning to clinch the win for the Hot Rods. With a Dayton victory over Great Lakes tonight, the Hot Rods remain in a two-game lead in the Wild Card and trail the Loons by 1.5 games for first place in the second half.
Bowling Green continues their ten-game road trip with the middle-game of a three-game series in Fort Wayne at Parkview Field on Thursday night at 6:05 PM CDT. The Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Jeff Ames (7-4, 2.98) opposite the TinCaps RHP Bryan Rodriguez (2-6, 3.51).
