Cougars Announce Roster Moves

Kane County Cougars News Release


GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs, have announced that infielder Dan Vogelbach has been transferred to Class-A Advanced Daytona. The Cougars have received outfielder Trevor Gretzky from Short-A Boise. Also, the Cougars have received infielder Brad Zapenas from Class-A Advanced Daytona, while catcher Neftali Rosario has been placed on the disabled list. Today's roster moves maintain an active squad of 25 players as the team opens a three-game road series this evening at Burlington.

Vogelbach (2nd Round, 2011), was on the Cougars' Opening Day roster and played in 114 of 115 games this season before receiving his promotion following Monday night's game. Vogelbach was named a Midwest League All-Star this summer and batted .284 with 17 home runs and 71 RBI. Seven of the top 30 Cubs organizational prospects according to Baseball America were on the team's Opening Night roster, and Vogelbach joins former Cougars pitcher Pierce Johnson as two of those seven prospects to earn a promotion to Daytona this season.

Gretzky (7th Round, 2011) joins the Cougars from Boise, where he was batting .256 in 27 games. Gretzky is the son of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. Zapenas (42nd Round, 2011) joined the Cougars on June 11 and played in 9 games with the Cougars, batting .304 and spending time defensively at third base, shortstop and second base. Zapenas has played with Kane County, Daytona and Double-A Tennessee this season.
