Bismarck Larks News Release
BISMARCK, ND - The Bismarck Larks explode for nine runs and fourteen hits to take game one against the La Crosse Loggers by the score of 9-1. The Larks improved to 5-2 on the season and are tied for first place in the Northwoods League standings. Carlos Lopez started on the mound for the Larks and threw five innings to get his second win of the year.
Coming into the game, Bismarck led the Northwoods League in multiple categories such as team batting average (.275), team on-base percentage (.402), and runs batted in with 36. They increased all of those numbers tonight against La Crosse.
The first batter of the game for the Loggers reached base on a single down the third base line and would later score to give the Loggers a 1-0 lead. It wouldn't last long as the Larks would battle back in the bottom half with newcomer Ripken Reyes reaching base safely and later scoring on a single into right field off of the bat of Mike Farnell.Â
Lopez settled in nicely for the Larks on the mound not allowing another run in his appearance. He threw five innings, struck out five and allowed one unearned run.
The Larks started the bottom of the fourth inning off with four straight singles to get the rally started and Reyes would come up big with a one out double that drove in two runs to put Bismarck on top 5-1.
In the bottom of the fifth inning three more runs would come around to score when Brandon Barna stepped up to the plate and on a 0-2 pitch, he would take one deep to left field for a three run home run to put the Larks up 8-1.
One more run would score for the Larks in the sixth inning when Farnell started the inning with a double and would later be driven in by Barna on a single into right field to make it a 9-1 game.
Parker Harm came in after Lopez and threw two innings and struck out three in his first appearance for the Larks in the 2018 season. Chris Roycroft finished the game on the mound for Bismarck, striking out three batters and allowing one hit.
The 5-2 Bismarck Larks will be back in action tomorrow night against the La Crosse Loggers at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark with first pitched scheduled at 7:05 p.m.
