Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - The Madison Mallards go for a series sweep this morning in Kalamazoo, taking on the Growlers at Homer Stryker Field at 10:05 AM. The Mallards took game one of the series last night with a 7-4 victory powered by 12 Madison hits and plenty of strong defensive performances. With a win today, the Mallards will stretch their winning streak to three games, potentially their longest stretch of consecutive wins this season.
Probable Pitchers
The Mallards are scheduled to send righty Dalton Wiggins (Marrieta) to the mound. Wiggins lasted 5.0 innings and allowed zero earned runs in his first outing as a Mallard last week against the Rafters. Wiggins looks to match Dalton Morrow's (Southwest Baptist) start last night when the lefty held the Growlers to only one run, allowing the Mallards to surge ahead in the ball game.
Kalamazoo plans to send Derek Carrto the bump for his second start of the season. Carr lasted 4.0 innings in his first outing and allowed one run on two hits. Last night, the Mallards were able to get to Kalamazoo starter Adam Wheaton for four runs and eight hits over the game's first five innings.
Players to Watch
Mallards designated hitter Tyler Plantier (Richmond) has been steady at the plate thus far, recording a hit in every game this season. After a three-hit performance with two doubles on Sunday in Madison, Plantier added another two knocks and an RBI last night. Plantier currently leads the Mallards with a .462 average.
Mallards center fielder Jayse McLean (NDSU) is also swinging a hot bat as he will look to extend his hitting streak to four games. McLean recorded three knocks last night including a triple. The junior from NDSU is hitting .286 this season and leads the Mallards with nine RBI.
