Hosmer, Moustakas Named to XM All-Star Futures Game Roster

KANSAS CITY, MO (June 22, 2010) - Kansas City Royals prospects Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas today were named to the U.S. roster for the 12th annual XM All-Star Futures Game. The game will match the U.S. team against the World squad and begin at 5 p.m. CDT on Sunday, July 11 from Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. It will be televised live on ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and MLB.TV and also available on the radio at XM 175.

The 20-year old Hosmer, the Royals' first selection (third overall) in 2008, currently leads the Carolina League (A Advanced) in batting at .356. Playing for the Wilmington Blue Rocks, the left-handed hitting first baseman also paces the league in doubles with 24 and OPS at .953 while ranking second in total bases (138), on-base pct. (.425) and slugging (.529).

Moustakas, 21, currently leads the Texas League (AA) in all three Triple Crown categories with a .355 average, 17 home runs and 63 RBI. A third baseman, the second-overall pick by Kansas City in 2007 also tops the circuit with 48 runs scored, 143 total bases, .704 slugging pct. and 1.126 OPS despite missing the first two weeks of the season with an oblique injury.

Northwest Arkansas manager Brian Poldberg was selected as a coach for the U.S. side. Poldberg, in his third season as skipper of the Naturals, has led his club to a 41-28 record and the first-half division title.

Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 MLB teams selected the 25-man rosters for each club. 2010 will mark the first time since 2006 (Billy Butler, Alex Gordon) the Royals had two players selected to the Futures Game.
