Brad Snyder drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Iowa Cubs defeated the Omaha Royals 8-7 Tuesday night at Principal Park.

After a four-run first inning by Omaha, Iowa reclaimed the lead with a five-run third inning. In top of the ninth Omaha's David Lough homered, tying the game at seven. Matt Camp led off the bottom of the ninth with a single and advanced to second on Jim Adduci's sacrifice bunt. Darwin Barney, who was 1-for-4, was intentionally walked, bringing Brad Snyder to the plate. Snyder singled, driving in the winning run for Iowa's 8-7 final.

A four-run first inning by Omaha would not last. Irving Falu started the game off with a single. Lough then doubled. Two outs and one run later Scott Thorman walked before Ed Lucas hit a three-run homer putting the Royals ahead, 4-0. Iowa got out of a bases-loaded jam in the third inning. With no outs, Iowa starter Jay Jackson loaded the bases with two walks and a base hit before retiring the next three batters in row.

Iowa's five-run third inning put them ahead of the Royals. Camp hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Bobby Scales to get on the board. Jim Adduci and Micah Hoffpauir then hit two-run homers to give Iowa a 5-4 lead. Welington Castillo and Darwin Barney also collected base hits in the inning that saw Iowa bat around.

The Cubs plated another pair of runs in the sixth inning as Bryan LaHair and Scales hit back-to-back doubles. Castillo continued the rally, scoring Scales with a single. Castillo was 2-for-4 Tuesday while Adduci and Hoffpauir each drove in two runs.

In the eighth inning Omaha retaliated, coming within one run. Lucas tripled, scoring Kila Ka'aihue and Thorman to trim Iowa's lead 7-6.

Iowa's Brian Schlitter (1-1) picked up his first win of the season. Schlitter threw 0.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Cubs. Omaha's Blaine Hardy (1-1) was tagged with the loss. The Cubs and Royals play game two of this series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
