Hillsboro Hops News Release
In the third game of a five-game set, the Vancouver Canadians defeated the Hillsboro Hops by a score of 7-0.
Hillsboro and Vancouver exchanged zeroes until the top of the fourth inning, when the Canadians opened the scoring on a Sterling Guzman sacrifice fly, scoring Jake Brodt.
Randy Pondler kept the Hops offense at bay, throwing six innings of shutout baseball scattering four hits and striking out three.
The opponents from up north doubled their lead in the sixth inning on a Nick Podkul single, driving in Jesus Severino.
The Canadians iced the Hops efforts at a comeback when they scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Brandon Polizzi singled to score Christopher Bec and Guzman. Otto Lopez, the villain on Wednesday night, drove in Polizzi and Tanner Kirwer on an infield single to make it 6-0 Vancouver.
Hillsboro threatened in the bottom of the eighth inning, loading the bases with two away, but could not push any runs across.
Vancouver pushed across one more in the ninth to make it 7-0. Brodt hit a double to dead-away center field, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a Severino groundout.
Hillsboro moves to 31-18, and Vancouver to 25-24. The Hops can win the series tomorrow night when the two teams face off at 7:05 pm at Ron Tonkin Field.
