Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Greensboro Grasshoppers suffered a shutout loss, 1-0, to the Kannapolis Intimidators on Monday night in the completion of Sunday night's suspended game. Greensboro (23-29 Second Half, 56-65 Overall) out-hit Kannapolis, 5-2, but struggled to string hits together in the scoreless defeat.
Kannapolis scored the game's only run in the fourth inning when Tyler Frost led off the inning with a walk, stole second base, and later scored on a Steele Walker sacrifice fly. Greensboro challenged in the sixth inning with one out when Jhonny Santos doubled and Connor Scott reached base by dropping a base hit into left field. Kannapolis' Kevin Escorcia stifled the rally by retiring Thomas Jones and Osiris Johnson, stranding two on base to end the inning.
Escorcia (2-2) earned the win with 3.0 scoreless innings and six strikeouts by taking over on the mound when play resumed. Will Kincannon worked the seventh and two-third of the eighth inning before Jose Nin tossed the final 1.1 frames for the save (7).
Brandon Miller (3-9) took the loss for Greensboro, allowing a run on two hits in 4.2 relief frames after taking over from Colton Hock's start was cut short when play was suspended on Sunday.
Play was halted in the bottom of the third inning with one out on Sunday evening after the skies opened up and the grounds crew was unable to get the tarp completely onto the infield. It marked the second straight day Greensboro and Kannapolis had play suspended after Saturday's game was suspended in the fifth inning.
The Grasshoppers and Intimidators wrap up this series with a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 5:05 p.m. at Intimidators Stadium. The Hoppers return to First National Bank Field on Thursday to open the team's final home stand of the season, and tickets are available online at gsohoppers.com.
