Hoppers Hit Stonger

Greensboro, N.C. - After exchanging runs through the first six innings Tuesday, Greensboro's Mike Stanton hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning to give the Hoppers their third straight win and the series against victory against Delmarva.

The Hopper's were out-hit by the Shorebirds for a second straight day, but used the hits they did get more effectively for the 6-4 victory.

Delmarva jumped on top early with a run in the first inning, but the two teams traded runs with Greensboro scoring single runs in the second and fourth innings and Delmarva adding another in the third. Both teams scored a run in the sixth inning before Stanton's eighth-inning blast put the Hoppers on top for good.

Brett Durand gave the Hoppers six innings before giving way to a bullpen that has not allowed an earned run in its last three games. After allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out four, Durand handed the ball to Corey Madden. Madden threw two strong innings for manager Edwin Rodriguez and struck out four to pick up his third win of the season.

Closer Garrett Parcell was credited with an unearned run in the ninth inning, but picked up his league-leading 14th save.

Bryan Petersen continued to look strong for Greensboro since returning from a short visit to High-A Jupiter. Petersen homered for the second time in the series in the fourth inning to tie the game at two; he finished the afternoon going 2-for-4 from the plate. Stanton finished 2-for-3 and third baseman Matt Dominguez went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Torre Langley was 2-for-4 as well.

Greensboro gets a day off at home on Wednesday before returning to action against West Virginia on Thursday. First pitch of the series opener between the Hoppers and the Power is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
