Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (31-21) could not complete the four game sweep of the Charleston RiverDogs (33-19) on Tuesday as Augusta was shutout out 2-0 in the finale. Starter Daryl Maday recorded the loss despite allowing just one run over six innings.
The RiverDogs broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning when Jesus Montero connected for a one-out solo homer to left field off of Maday. It was Montero's sixth home run of the season.
Maday (3-4) allowed five hits, no walks and struck out seven in the loss. The right-hander matched a career high for innings pitched.
Charleston got an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning off of Dan Turpen when Braedyn Pruitt scored from third on a ground ball to second from Taylor Holiday. The GreenJackets tried to turn a double-play on the grounder to end the inning but could only get the force out at second.
The RiverDogs Lance Pendleton (4-2) worked six innings and allowed four hits, no walks and struck out five.
Augusta left four runners on base and three were left stranded at third base. The GreenJackets left runners at third base in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings and all three times it came with two outs.
The GreenJackets are off on Wednesday but return to action on Thursday night to open a four game road trip in Savannah against the Sand Gnats. Augusta will send left-hander Steven Calicutt (2-3, 3.76) to the mound in the first game of the series. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes:
Augusta fell to 16-14 at home.
The RiverDogs snapped a 13 game losing streak at Lake Olmstead Stadium dating back to 2006.
Augusta finished the home stand 6-2.
The GreenJackets are 19-6 in the month of May
The GreenJackets fell to 4.5 back of first place with 17 games left in the first half.
