Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Greensboro, NC- Mike Stanton's three-run homer off Brian Parker in the last of eighth gave the Grasshoppers their first lead of the day and paved the way for Greensboro's victory in the ballgame and in the series.

For the second straight day, the Shorebirds scored first and out-hit their opponent, but once again it did not matter as the ‘Hoppers answered every early tally with one of their own. Joe Nowicki wasted no time in extending his hitting streak to ten games with a solo home run in the first. His seventh dinger of the season gave Delmarva an early edge, but Greensboro battled back to tie it at one. When the Shorebirds took a 2-1 lead in the third on Brendan Monaghan's first home run of the season, the Grasshoppers evened the score on Bryan Peterson's round tripper in the fourth. And when the Birds took a 3-2 advantage in the sixth, the ‘Hoppers responded again, tying up the proceedings at three.

The score remained even until the eighth, when Stanton blasted an 0-2 pitch into the gully. Although the Shorebirds scored an unearned run in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate, Jason White's strikeout ended the game and gave Garrett Parcel his 14th save of the year.

Corety Madden got the win, improving his record to 3-0, while Parker was tagged with his first loss of the season. Shorebirds starter Sean Gleason was removed in two outs in the sixth. On the day, Gleason threw five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out six and walking one.
