RiverDogs Final Eight-Game Homestand of First Half Starts May 29

CHARLESTON - The Charleston RiverDogs look to improve on their recent difficulties at home, as they begin their fourth eight-game homestand of the 2008 season from May 29 through June 5 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Charleston has won just five of its last 15 games at The Joe after starting the season 9-0, but the team is still in excellent position to make a push for their first playoff berth since 2005.

In pair of four-game sets, the RiverDogs host the Hickory Crawdads, an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, May 29 through June 1, and the Rome Braves, an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, June 2 though June 5.

First pitch for each contest will be 7:05 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Thursday, May 29 kicks off the Hickory series with another Thirsty Thursday presented by Force Protection Industries, Inc. and 95 SX. As always, there are $1 food and drink specials in the Ashley View Pub all evening. It is also be the first Military Appreciation Night of the season, as the RiverDogs pay tribute to all our Lowcountry military personnel. As part of the event, the first 500 military personnel to pick tickets at their respective bases around the area receive a voucher for free parking and a complimentary hot dog at the game.

Friday, May 30 marks another Force Protection Red Shirt Friday, presented by Force Protection Industries, Inc. and WEZL. Fans who wear a red shirt to Friday night home games will receive one dollar off their ticket price at the box office, and will then have the option to donate that dollar to support service families. The RiverDogs will also wear special red jerseys on Friday home games, which will be auctioned off at the end of the season to support Charleston Area Service Men and Women.

The evening will also be Girl Scouts Night at the The Joe, with area Girl Scout troops on-hand offering special post-game activities such as arts, crafts, manicures and pedicures. Fans will also be treated to another Friday Night Fireworks spectacular following the game, this time with a special twist. That evening's presentation features the ZOOperstars!, with characters like Harry Canary, Clammy Sosa and Shark McGwire to make for a fun and memorable occasion.

Saturday, May 31 is highlighted by the Dunkin' Dounts Pillow Case Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans through the turnstiles, presented by Dunkin' Donuts and WTAT Fox 24. The night also marks PFL Pillow Fight Night 2, which will take place on the Riley Park concourse following the night's game with members of the professional Pillow Fight League.

Earlier that day, the RiverDogs will hold their inaugural Ball Yard Sale at The Joe from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. presented by Citadel Broadcasting and iSold It. The event will have plenty of free parking for all patrons with just a $1 admission price. Sunday, June 1 will mark another Family Sunday at The Joe presented by the Charleston County Parks & Recreation Center/MUSC Sports Medicine and WJNI. The final game of the Hickory series is set for a 4:05 p.m. first pitch.

Following the game, fans will be treated to a Christian music concert in the right-field area from Caedmon's Call, which is presented by Jason's Deli. The world-renown Contemporary Christian group has released nine albums to date, and will perform their unique brand of world music and alternative rock for the RiverDogs faithful.

Monday, June 2 not only welcomes the Rome Braves to The Joe for the second time this season for another four-game series, it will be the fifth Dogs With a Cause Night presented by Y 102.5 FM. On this evening, the RiverDogs partner with Crisis Ministries, a local non-profit organization, to generate exposure and funds for their cause.

Tuesday, June 3 highlights the second Education Day of the 2008 season, this time welcoming school groups from Charleston County, presented by BI-LO, B 92 and The CW. This third game of the Rome series is a day game slated for an 11:05 a.m. first pitch.

Wednesday, June 4 is another Wild Wednesday presented by Chuck 96.1 FM. The $20 All-U-Can-Eat special in the Ashley View Pub will be at full force once again with its rotating featured items that are available until the seventh inning. It will also be Oingo Boingo played BINGO NIGHT at The Joe. When entering the stadium, fans will receive special bingo cards and instructions for Bingo -- RiverDogs' style. Fans can vie for a vast assortment of prize packs, including a Mitch Hilligoss autographed jersey.

Thursday, June 5 marks the final game of the Rome series with the second Thirsty Thursday of the homestand presented by 95 SX. The RiverDogs will also be holding Teacher Appreciation Night, which not only honors all of the dedicated educators in the area, but will also be stamped by the presentation of the Charleston County Teacher of the Year Award.

As an added bonus, every person who enters the park that night will be eligible for The Price is Right Night, as the RiverDogs promotional crew puts a spin on one of the most popular game shows of all time. Fans can sign up to participate in the event in the concourse area, and will have the opportunity to "Come On Down" if their name is called between innings to play the game, with great prizes up grabs.

Following the homestand, the RiverDogs head back on the road for a seven-game road trip against the Savannah Sand Gnats, a New York Mets affiliate, from June 6 through June 8, and the aforementioned Braves in a four-game set from June 9 through June 12.
