Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
RPUS CHRISTI - Three Hooks pitchers combined to spin a one-hit shutout in the finale of a three-game series against Frisco, topping the RoughRiders 5-0 Tuesday night at Whataburger Field. The Hooks went 5-2 on the seven-game homestand.
Bryan Abreu, rated the No. 7 prospect in the Astros' system according to MLB.com, was dominant over 5.0 no-hit innings to earn his first career Double-A win. He walked two and struck out six, including striking out the side in the third.
Abreu handed it over to Justin Ferrell, who allowed Frisco's only hit to Brendon Davis with one out in the sixth, but otherwise worked a clean 1.2 innings. Colin McKee (S, 3) continued to carry the torch, topping off the final 2.1 innings with five punchouts.
Ronnie Dawson gave the Hooks all the support they'd need with a solo home run (6) in the third off righty Emerson Martinez to make it 1-0. In the fourth, the Hooks tallied three consecutive RBI knocks to extend the lead to 4-0. Martinez (L, 2-2) surrendered 10 hits over 6.0 innings.
Osvaldo Duarte gave Corpus its fifth and final run with a towering shot (7) off Jario Beras in the seventh.
The Hooks hit the road starting with four games in Midland this weekend. Lefty Brett Adcock (0-4, 8.22) goes for the Hooks against righty Kyle Friedrichs for the RockHounds, with first pitch at 7 p.m.
