Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

AMARILLO - Corpus Christi broke through for seven runs in the third inning Tuesday night and held on for an 11-8 triumph over the homestanding Sod Poodles before 4,280 fans in the series opener at Hodgetown.

The Hooks have won a season-best five games in a row, while taking seven of their last eight.

Jimmy Endersby set the tone on the hill, blanking Amarillo over the first five frames. Endersby, who has won his last two starts, held the Sod Poodles to three hits and two walks. He struck out six.

Scott Manea handed CC a 2-0 lead in the first with a two-out, two-run single. Corey Julks extended his hit streak to seven games by opening the contest with a double to center.

Julks beat out an infield knock to start the third, the second of his three hits. He would bat a second time in the frame as the Hooks sent 10 to the plate against Kenny Hernandez. Following a Joe Perez double, Korey Lee sent a two-run single through the right side.

Alex McKenna would later add an RBI single, one of two for McKenna on the day, and Cesar Salazar capped the rally with a three-run home run to right field, putting the visitors up 9-0.

The Sod Poodles rallied for six runs against Brandon Lawson in the sixth. Buddy Kennedy began the scoring with an eight-pitch walk and Dominic Fletcher ended it with a three-run opposite field homer to left.

Grae Kessinger made it 11-8 Hooks in the eighth with his eighth homer of the year, and the second in seven August games.

Each man in the CC lineup recorded a base hit, except for David Hensley who was robbed of a home run by a brilliant leaping catch in right field from Fletcher.

Michael Horrell permitted two runs (one earned) in 2 1/3 innings and Nick Hernandez picked up his fourth save with a perfect ninth.

Cesar Rosado takes the ball for the Hooks Wednesday night. Amarillo lists Drey Jameson as its starting pitcher. First pitch is 7:05.
