Midland RockHounds News Release
One-eighty ... point / counterpoint ... punch / counter-punch ... mirror image ... or simply insert the cliché of your choice. In any terminology, the San Antonio Missions "returned the favor" Wednesday night, defeating the RockHounds, 13-4, at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
One night after being shut out by the 'Hounds, 15-0, San Antonio used an almost identical blueprint to even the series at a game apiece:
- Tuesday night, the RockHounds scored seven runs in the second inning
- Wednesday, the Missions scored six times in the second
- Tuesday, the 'Hounds pushed the lead to 10-0 after five innings
- Wednesday, the Missions led, 13-1, after five
- RockHounds starter Kyle Friedrichs (and two relievers) combined on a three-hit shutout in the opener
- Missions starter Adrian Martinez lowered his league-leading ERA to 2.34, allowing one run over six innings Wednesday
Agustin Ruiz went 3-for-5 with a double and a three-run home run. _Playing in just his second game since being promoted from (High-A) Fort Wayne, Ruiz drove in seven runs. _
Missions' leadoff hitter Esteury Ruiz also had a big night, reaching base in 4-of-5 plate appearances. He had a pair of doubles and a perfectly executed (RBI) bunt single, finishing the night with three runs scored and three RBI.
Kibbles & Bits
Jake Suddleson (14 games), Jhonny Santos (13), and Max Schuemann (seven) each extended his on-base streak. Schuemann reached base in 4-of-5 trips to the plate and stole his eighth base as a member of the RockHounds. It was his 42nd steal (in 44 attempts) overall for the season. Max, who joined the RockHounds July 13 from (High-A) Lansing (he had 34 steals with the Lugnuts) ranks among the top five "thieves" in Minor League Baseball.
Kyle McCann's two-run home run in the seventh inning was his seventh of the season and his second in as many games.
