Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Brian Holmes evened his record at 2-2 by limiting Frisco to a run over 5 1/3 innings as Corpus Christi dispatched the RoughRiders 3-1 at Whataburger Field Thursday before 4,681.
Holmes gave up five hits and three walks, whiffing three in a 93-pitch outing (51 strikes). From there, Aaron West went six-up, six-down before turning the game over to Chris Cotton, who handled the next 2/3. Jandel Gustave worked the ninth for his 9th save in 11 opportunities, touching 100 mph. He did, however, have to pitch around two walks and a wild pitch.
Frisco has dropped 10 straight in the season series.
Corpus Christi (50-23; 2-1) threatened Chad Bell in the first with two singles, but came away empty when he snagged a line drive off the bat of Conrad Gregor. That wasn't the case two innings later, the Hooks pushing two runs across via Jon Kemmer's RBI single to left and a sacrifice deep liner to center from Tyler White. Chan-Jong Moon and Teoscar Hernandez set the table by walking and singling, respectively.
Frisco (30-43; 1-2) halved the lead right away, newcomer Alex Burg's two-out homer landing on the left-field berm.
Corpus Christi added seventh-inning padding. Moon led off with a bounding double inside the third-base line, advanced to third as Brett Phillips bounced out, and home when Bell balked.
Bell (2-8) recorded six hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. He threw 94 pitches (63).
The series continues Friday at 7:05, when the Hooks send Kyle Westwood (5-3) vs. Jose Leclerc (2-4). Bud Light presents Friday Fireworks postgame.
