Frisco's Mazara and Williams Selected to Play in SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game

FRISCO, TEXAS (JUNE 25, 2015) - Frisco RoughRiders outfielders Nomar Mazara (World Team) and Nick Williams (U.S. Team) were selected to play in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on July 12 (2 p.m. CDT) at Cincinnati's Great American Ballpark when rosters for the showcase were announced today. In addition, former RoughRiders manager and current Round Rock skipper Jason Wood will serve as a coach on the U.S. Team.

Last week both Mazara, 20, and Williams, 21, were named mid-season Texas League All-Stars and today's news continues their terrific seasons. In 69 games this season, Mazara is batting .286/.366/.460 with 13 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 38 RBI. Williams has played in all 72 games this season and is hitting .294/.357/.457 with 16 doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 31 RBI.

The duo joins current and former Riders who have also been selected to play in the prestigious showcase game in the last ten years: Joey Gallo (2013 & 2014), Jorge Alfaro (2013 & 2014) Jurickson Profar (2011 & 2012), Mike Olt (2012), Lisalverto Bonilla (2012), Kyle Lotzkar (2012), Edwar Cabrera (2012), Martin Perez (2011), Chih-Hsien Chiang (2011), Tanner Scheppers (2010), Neftali Feliz (2009), Kevin Pucetas (2008), Taylor Teagarden (2008), Chris Davis (2008), Elvis Andrus (2007 & 2008), John Whittleman (2007), Max Ramirez (2007), German Duran (2007), Eric Hurley (2006), Salomon Manriquez (2006) and Joaquin Arias (2006).

Gallo was named the MVP of the 2014 contest at Target Field thanks to a sixth inning, two-run home run that sent the U.S. Team to a 3-2 victory. Profar hit a home run in the 2012 edition of the game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

The RoughRiders will return to Dr Pepper Ballpark for a pair of holiday weekend series against Northwest Arkansas and Arkansas from July 2-7. Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible to participate. The teams feature 13 former first round draft picks (all U.S.), four players picked in Compensation Round A (U.S. - 3; World - 1) and two second round picks (both U.S.). Among the 13 first round picks, six were selected in the 2014 Draft, three in the 2013 Draft, two in the 2012 Draft and two in the 2011 Draft.

The World Team features players from seven different countries and territories outside the 50 United States. The Dominican Republic is represented by 13 players, followed by Venezuela (5) and Puerto Rico (3). Curacao, Germany, Nicaragua and Taiwan are each represented by one player on the World Team.

The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game will last nine innings, and in the event of a tie, a 10th inning will be played. The game will not go longer than 10 innings, regardless of the score. Players and coaches will be outfitted in special SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game caps and jerseys.
