Frisco RoughRiders News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (June 25, 2015) - A two-run third inning proved enough for the Hooks as Corpus Christi won 3-1 against the Frisco RoughRiders on Thursday night at Whataburger Field. Alex Burg knocked a solo home run in his Riders debut, but that was all the Riders could muster against Hooks pitching.

Frisco starter Chad Bell (2-8) struck out six and allowed three runs over seven innings. A walk to ninth place hitter Chan-Jong Moon in the third inning began a two-run frame for Corpus Christi (2-1, 50-23). With runners on the corners and one out, Jon Kemmer notched his second hit of the night against Bell to score Moon. The next batter Tyler White added a sacrifice fly and the Hooks led 2-0.

Burg, who was promoted from Advanced-A High Desert earlier on Thursday, belted a solo blast in the top of the fourth inning against Hooks starter Brian Holmes. The home run is Burg's 16th overall, which marks the second most in a season for the six-year pro.

In his second straight start against the Riders, Holmes (2-2) allowed the lone run over 5 1/3 innings. The win is Holmes' first since winning his first game with the Hooks on May 18 against San Antonio.

A one-run game in the seventh inning, the Hooks got a freebie from Bell. Moon doubled and advanced to third on a ground out before scoring on a balk. Plate umpire Nate Tomlinson awarded Moon home on Bell's second balk of the season.

Frisco (1-2, 30-43) would not go quietly in the ninth against Hooks closer Jandel Gustave. A pair of walks put J.T. Wise and Trever Adams on-base and represented the tying runs. Pat Cantwell grounded out, but both runners advanced into scoring position before Luis Marte flew out to end the game.

The RoughRiders dropped their 10th straight contest to the Hooks and will try to snap a two-game losing skid overall on Friday behind RHP Jose Leclerc (2-4). Corpus Christi counters with Kyle Westwood and Ruben Alaniz. The RoughRiders return home on July 2 to begin a six-game home stand featuring fireworks on July 3, 4 and 5. On July 5, the first 2,000 fans will receive a free Swinging Teddy Bobblehead.
