Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers put on a hitting display in Friday's game against the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers, winning 11-2 in the final home game of the season Friday night at Mayo Field. The Honkers improve their record to 15-21 in the second half, with two games remaining in the 2011 season.

The Honkers scored nine runs in the second inning, more then they scored in the entire series against the Lunkers. They used eight hits in the inning including two clutch doubles to start the scoring against the Lunkers. Ryan Hambright (So, Oregon) would add to the score in the third inning with a two run home run, a towering blast to the right field power alley.

Tony Kemp (Fr, Vanderbilt) went 4-for-4 in the ballgame, scoring two runs, to improve his season batting average to .314. Johnny Coy (RsJr, Wichita State) and Justin Kline (Jr, Presentation College) both added two RBI in the Honkers victory.

D.J. Snelten (Fr, Minnesota) would pick up his second win of the season, finishing the year with a 2-2 record and a 4.46 ERA. Snelten pitched six innings, allowing just two hits and no runs before getting pulled for a high pitch count. He struck out six batters in the game.

The Honkers will now travel to Duluth to take on the Huskies in the final games of the season. Erik Mattingly (Jr, Creighton) will get the start on the mound tomorrow for the Honkers. It will be his first start of the season and 14th appearance as a pitcher total. The Honkers will return home next June, when they kick off the 2012 Northwoods League Season.
