Willmar Stingers News Release
THUNDER BAY, Ontario - Sean Dwyer (Florida Gulf Coast) and Garrett Borba (Pacific) had the only hits for the Willmar Stingers in a pitcher's duel that resulted in a 1-0 defeat for the Stingers Friday night at Port Arthur Stadium in Thunder Bay, Ontario, in their final road game of the 2011 season.
Willmar had a baserunner reach third base three times in the contest, but the Stingers couldn't bring any of them home and dropped the game to the Thunder Bay Border Cats, who scored their one run on only four hits. Anthony Bemboom (Creighton), Mitch Rowan (Willamette), Mitch Delfino (California), Pat Stover (Santa Clara) and Borba all reached base on walks in the contest.
Chris Gonzales (Point Loma Nazarene) took the hard-luck loss after allowing only one run in six innings while striking out five. Ricky Knapp (Florida Gulf Coast) pitched the final two frames and retired all six batters he faced.
Willmar will return home to Bill Taunton Stadium for its final two games of the season, which will also mark Fan Appreciation Weekend presented by Marcus Construction. Saturday's game is Poster Night and Post-Game Fireworks presented by Marcus Construction & Lakeland Broadcasting. The first 500 fans will receive a Stingers poster. There will also be a special fireworks show after the game. The gates will open at 6:05 p.m. The first pitch will be at 7:05.
