Green Bay Rockers News Release
Battle Creek, MI - For the second time this year the Green Bay Bullfrogs lost their third straight game. The 'Frogs allowed a season-high 17 hits to the Battle Creek Bombers on the road in a 12-2 loss. Green Bay allowed six runs in the first inning and could never recover.
The Bullfrogs are now a game back of the Battle Creek Bombers who can clinch home field with a win or a Bullfrogs loss in the final two days. After La Crosse won on Friday they are still in the hunt. They are tied with Green Bay, one game back of the Bombers who are in first place. If Battle Creek wins or La Crosse loses one game in the final two days then Green Bay will clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2007.
Alex Hermeling started for the Bullfrogs after signing on with Green Bay before the game. The righthander allowed seven consecutive hits to begin the inning which scored five runs. Jordan Dean then added a sacrifice fly to give the Bombers a 6-0 lead. In the second Bryce Redecker drove in the seventh run for Battle Creek on another sac fly. In the series the Bombers scored 23 runs in the first three innings of each game. They had a total of 42 hits and 35 runs in the three game sweep of the Bullfrogs.
Green Bay's only two runs came in on a Paul Hoenecke double with two outs in the third inning. Alec Mehrten picked up the Bullfrogs' first hit of the game with a one-out double in the inning. After a walk to Nick Stein and a fly out, Hoenecke drove in a pair with a double to make the game 7-2.
The Bombers continued to tack on runs throughout the ball game. Daniel Rockett blasted two home runs. Bryce Redecker hit a two-run inside-the-park home run that gave the Bombers the 12-2 final score.
Green Bay will close out the regular season with a two game set against the Eau Claire Express on Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday game is Fan Appreciation night. There will be fireworks after the 7:05 pm first pitch. Sunday will be the season finale. It will be Wipeout Day at the ball park. John Anderson, the host of ABC's television show Wipeout will be in attendance. Green Bay will wear Wipeout themed jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game. The proceeds will benefit the Anderson Family Charitable Foundation. Individual and group tickets are available by calling 920-497-7225 or by logging on to www.greenbaybullfrogs.com for more information.
