Madison Mallards News Release

MADISON, WI - The Madison Mallards face the Wisconsin Woodchucks in a 7:05 p.m. game Friday night at the "Duck Pond" in what will be the home finale for Madison in 2011. The Mallards will also be attempting a three-game sweep of the Woodchucks, and a victory would assure Madison of a record of at least .500 for the second half of the season.

The Mallards will look for their offense to duplicate its success from Thursday in Friday's game. Madison out-hit Wisconsin 11-8 en-route to a 9-4 victory. The nine runs scored were the most in a single game since scoring 12 on the Woodchucks in Wausau on July 28.

Starting pitching has also contributed to recent success for the Mallards, and hoping to propel the team to victory Friday will be Chris Lamb (Davidson). The left-handed hurler had some trouble earlier in the season, but has seemed to find his groove as of late. His best outing of the season came in his first appearance for the Mallards against the Woodchucks in the team's 3-2 win on June 28 when he gave up just two runs in five innings of work. This season, Lamb is 0-3 with a 6.23 earned run average.

Wisconsin has not announced a starter for the contest.

The home portion of the schedule concludes just the way it began, as the Mallards opened up their newly-renovated "Duck Pond" on June 7 in a 7:05 p.m. game against the Woodchucks. Overall, Madison is 20-14 at home this season with an average attendance of 6,264. The team passed the 200,000 total attendance figure in Thursday's victory, and the 206,717 total attendance has already surpassed the 200,503 from a season ago.

Friday will be Mallards Founding Partners Fan Appreciation Night and Rayovac Flashlight Night, with the first 1,000 fans receiving a flashlight courtesy of Rayovac. It will also be St. Mary's of Sun Prairie Emergency Center Community Night.

With one game separating the top three teams in the South Division, Friday's games will play a vital role in determining who will fill the final playoff spot and join Battle Creek in the postseason. Battle Creek is currently tied for first place with Green Bay, and both teams face each other in Michigan with a 6:05 p.m. start time. La Crosse sits one game back and will play Waterloo at Copeland Park in another 7:05 p.m. game.
