Honkers Offense Powers Through Loggers

(La Crosse, Wis.) - The Rochester Honkers (4-2) offense just continues to hit. The Honkers defeated the La Crosse Loggers (4-2) 10-2 to complete the 2-game sweep at Copeland Park on Sunday. Rochester has now won three straight and compiled 27 hits between the 2-game series in La Crosse. The Honkers are tied for first place with Bismarck, La Crosse and Wilmer.

Honker's starter Hunter Spencer (Bellarmine) settled in after giving up an unearned run in the first. The lefty worked five innings, struck out eight and surrendered just three hits to earn the win.

For the second night in a row, Derek Scott (Abilene Christian) led off the game with a home run. He finished with the night with four hits in six at-bats and two RBIs.

The Honkers began to pull away with a four run fourth inning. Jaylon McLaughlin (Nevada) ripped a RBI single to center and later came around to score on an error. Benjamin Sems (Kansas) and Scott both scored came around to score on an error.

The Honkers offense had another big inning in the eighth scoring three runs, two off of a Ryan Casper (Point Loma Nazarene) double. Scott gave the Honkers one more run on an RBI infield single.

In the ninth the Honkers continued to add insurance. McLaughlin singled to give him his second RBI of the night. Griffin Schneider (Century) later scored on an error.

The Honkers look to win their fourth straight on Monday hosting the Waterloo Bucks. Monday is Reusable Tote Bag Night presented by Salt & Pepper Photography and 106.9 KROC. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Drew Slade (Ripon) is scheduled to make his second start of the year for Honkers, going against Eric Reardon (Rutgers) for the Bucks.
