Green Bay Rockers News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc. - For the third consecutive night, the Green Bay Bullfrogs (2-3) offense tallied double-digit hits in a convincing 12-5 victory over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (3-2) from Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc. The Frogs snap the Rafter's three-game win streak, securing their first road victory of the 2018 season. Green Bay posted 12 total hits on the night.
Both teams conclude the two-game home-and-home series tomorrow afternoon for a Sunday matinee at Joannes Stadium. First pitch is slated for a 1:05 p.m. start in Titletown. A live video webcast of the contest can be streamed online through the official Northwoods League website. Fans can also listen to the live audio broadcast on WOCO Radio (107.1 FM, 1260 AM) or online at WOCO.Caster.FM.
Green Bay right fielder Jake Munoz (Sophomore, Univ. of San Francisco) headlined the Bullfrog's impressive all-around performance at the dish. Munoz went 2-for-6 with a home run and three RBIs, crushing the team's first dinger of the summer. Second baseman Collin Luty (Junior, Northern Kentucky) posted a break-out night at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Shortstop Rudy Aguilar (Sophomore, St. Johns) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI. Catcher Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) posted a 2-for-4 clip scoring one run.
The Bullfrogs struck first in the top half of the third inning with a bomb over the right field wall by Munoz to grab an early 1-0 advantage. Green Bay never let go of the lead for the remainder of regulation.
Wisconsin Rapids got one run back in the following frame on a RBI ground out to knot the score at 1-1. With the bases loaded, two strikes and two outs, Munoz laced a two-run single into right field to put the Frogs back in front 3-1.
Green Bay added insurance in the fifth inning with a RBI single by Aguilar and two-run base-knock by Luty to stretch the Bullfrog advantage out to 6-1. The Rafters soon added one run each in the fifth and seventh frames to trim the margin down to 6-3, while the Frog offense was temporarily silenced in the sixth and seventh innings.
However, the Bullfrogs opened the offensive floodgates in the top half of the eighth inning with a six-run frame to extend the lead out to a commanding 12-3 mark. A pair of RBI singles by first baseman Joe Vyskocil (UW Milwaukee) and center fielder Cooper Morrison (Sophomore, UC Davis) pushed the lead out to 8-3 before a RBI walk by first baseman Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.) made it a 9-3 game. Shortly after, two more runs came across on an error, along with Aguilar grounding into a fielder's choice to extend the lead out to nine runs.
Green Bay starting right-handed pitcher Leo Perez (Freshman, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi) got the win in his Bullfrog debut on the mound, improving to 1-0. Perez allowed just one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts. Wisconsin Rapids starting righty Charlie Ruegger took the loss, falling to 0-2.
