Homers Push Biscuits by Jacksonville in Series Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Stone Garrett went yard for Jacksonville, but two Kevin Padlo shots helped power the Montgomery Biscuits to a 3-2 win over the Jumbo Shrimp from the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. A crowd of 6,248 enjoyed a Red Shirt Friday, Friday Night Lites spiced up by Tijuana Flats presented by Miller Lite and Coors Light and NAPA Family Fireworks.

The score was tied at two in the ninth inning. Jermaine Palacios then crushed a solo home run to left off Jacksonville (23-38) reliever Dylan Lee (0-3) to put Montgomery (37-23) ahead 3-2.

Padlo homered to break a scoreless tie in the second. However, in the bottom of the frame, Garrett crushed a long ball to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 2-1 advantage. Padlo's solo shot in the fourth equalized the score at two.

Biscuits reliever Brian Shaffer worked five shutout innings of one-hit ball, retiring the final 14 men he faced. Ivan Pelaez (2-1) pitched a zero in the eighth and Phoenix Sanders tossed the ninth for his sixth save.

Jordan Yamamoto matched a season-high with nine strikeouts in five innings of two-run ball. Jeff Kinley struck out four in two innings of relief.

Friday's winning raffle number of 1548842021 won a prize of $162.

Jacksonville hosts Montgomery at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday from the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
