Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham Barons outfielder Luis Robert and right-handed pitcher Jimmy Lambert were named to the 2019 Southern League All-Star Game, league officials announced Friday afternoon.

Votes were tallied from field managers, general managers and radio broadcasters across all 10 Southern League clubs. The All-Star Game is slated for June 18 at MGM park in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Robert, who began his 2019 campaign at Class-A Advanced Winston-Salem before his promotion to Double-A Birmingham on April 30, owns a .331 clip at the plate with three home runs, 18 RBI and 10 stolen bases across 33 games with the Barons.

The 21-year-old outfielder captured the Minor League Baseball Player of the Month award for April after he posted top-10 marks across the Carolina League in 12 different offensive categories, including batting average (.453), home runs (8) and RBI (24).

Ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the White Sox system according to MLB Pipeline, Robert recorded a 14-game hit streak with the Barons leading up to his All-Star selection, in which he amassed a .438 batting average (28-for-64). He tallied nine multi-hit efforts across the 14-game stretch.

The Havana, Cuba, product, whom the White Sox signed for $26 million in May 2017, earns his first All-Star selection in the minors.

Lambert, 24, logged five quality starts across his first eight outings of the 2019 season. The right-hander, who earns his second All-Star selection (2017 - South Atlantic League), is tied for the team lead with three wins and paces the Barons with 59.1 innings of work.

Lambert, who ranks third among all Southern League pitchers with 70 strikeouts, posted 11 punchouts across six innings in a 6-4 win over Mississippi on May 16.

Ranked as the No. 18 prospect in the White Sox system, Lambert has allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight of his 11 outings this season.

The initial roster, as announced by the Southern League, is subject to change and will be updated as player transactions occur due to promotion, trade or injury.

The starting lineup for the North Division ahead of the 2019 All-Star Game is expected to be announced Wednesday (June 12).
