Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

AVON, Ohio - The Traverse City Beach Bums used three homeruns to post a 6-4 win and salvage a game in the three-game set with the Lake Erie Crushers.

Brett Bostelman took the ball for the Beach Bums in his eighth start of the season and allowed Lake Erie to score a run in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead. With two outs Tim Binkoski posted an infield single and Eddie Tisdale drew a walk. A wild pitch enabled Binkoski to go to third but Beach Bums catcher Robby Alcombrack threw to second to try and cut down Tisdale, who got caught in a rundown enabling the first run to score.

Traverse City used a pair of homers in the top of the third to open a 4-1 lead. Robby Alcombrack led off the inning by planting the first pitch from Lake Erie starter Josh Faiola over the wall in left. Corey Whiting recorded a one out single and with runners at the corners following a fielder's choice, John Alonso rocketed a 3-2 pitch from Faiola over the rightfield fence to put the Beach Bums up 4-1.

Lake Erie rallied with a pair of homers in the bottom of the inning to tie the game against Beach Bums starter Brett Bostelman. Andrew Davis hit a two-run shot and Gordie Gronkowski connected on a solo shot.

Neither starter made it out of the fourth as the Beach Bums got their lone run not a homer in the inning to take back the lead. Robby Alcombrack singled to start the inning, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Al Barbato. That was enough to hang the loss on Faiola, who surrendered five runs in his three innings. Bostelman departed after the first two runners reach in the bottom of the inning. Bostelman threw three innings and got a no-decision.

Shawn Joy entered in relief and tossed four innings to gather his third win of the season. Robby Alcombrack added an insurance run with a first-pitch homer to right in the sixth inning, his second of the game, matching a team record. Jeff Williams notched his league leading ninth save by striking out two in the ninth.

Traverse City had 10 hits in the contest. Alcombrack had three of those, finishing 3-for-4 with two homers, a stolen base, and three runs scored. John Alonso and Brian Lapin also posted two hits in the contest.
