Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Avon, OH - Home runs were flying out of All Pro Freight Stadium on Monday night but the Lake Erie Crushers would lose a tight one to the Traverse City Beach Bums by the final of 6-4.

The two teams combined to put five out of the yard, but three by the Beach Bums proved to be the difference in the game. Lake Erie started off early with a run in the second as Tim Binkoski scored on a passed ball to put the Crushers up 1-0. But Traverse City struck for four runs in the third on a solo homer by Robbie Alcombrack and a three-run blast by John Alonso to take a 4-1 lead.

The Crushers would come right back and tie the game in the bottom of the third as Andrew Davis launched his seventh homer of the year, followed by a solo shot by Gordon Gronkowski. It turned out to be the shortest outing of the season for Traverse City's ace Brett Bostelman, who lasted just three innings.

But Lake Erie would be held off the board for the rest of the night by Traverse City's bullpen as Shawn Joy, David Hurst, and Jeff Williams combined to throw six innings of shutout ball. Joy picked up the win and Williams notched his league-leading ninth save of the season. "You like your chances when you knock out the other team's ace," said Crusher skipper John Massarelli. "Joy came in there and did a great job of shutting us down."

Josh Faiola lasted just three innings as he allowed five runs on six hits to see his record fall to 1-5 on the year. "I felt good out there in the first couple innings and got myself in a jam," said Faiola afterwards. "I've just got to work hard and try to get better every single day."

The Crushers head to Ypsilanti, Michigan on Tuesday for a doubleheader with the Midwest Sliders. Kevin Skogley and Brad Davidson will start the games for Lake Erie.
