O'FALLON, MO - Joey Metropoulos launched a grand slam and drove in five runs as the Miners breezed past the Rascals 8-3 Monday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. The Miners scored eight unanswered runs and took two of three from the Rascals.

River City (23-12) darted out to a 3-0 lead, scoring all three runs with two outs. JoJo Batten and Kevin Reynolds singled while Chris Colton drove in 32nd run of the season with another single. Scott Robinson made it four consecutive singles and drove in a pair of runs for the 3-0 advantage.

Southern Illinois (21-15) started their string of eight unanswered runs with two in the fourth. Metropoulos doubled in Jereme Milons, who led off the frame with a double of his own. Tom Stack-Babich singled home Metropoulos to cut into the deficit at 3-2.

The Miners scored four in the fifth off Chris Ingoglia (4-3). Kevin Koski and Brad Miller singled while Milons walked to set the stage for Metropoulos. The designated hitter lifted a fly ball to right center field, just clearing the wall for a 6-3 Miners lead.

Ingoglia finished the inning for five frames on the night, allowing the six runs on seven hits.

The Rascals allowed two more runs in the sixth on a two run Tony Roth home run off Jake Edwards.

Tony Marsala and Josh Rose pitched the final three frames, allowing two hits and no runs with two strikeouts.

Seven Rascals had a base hit, with Robinson knocking in two to lead the club.

River City moves on to Evansville for a three game set at Bosse Field. The Rascals are 5-1 this season against Evansville and send Tyler Musselwhite (3-2) to the bump, who holds a 2-0 mark against the Otters. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. tomorrow night.
