New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) overcame an early 5-1 deficit with a four-run rally in the seventh inning, but suffered a 7-5 loss to the Bowie Baysox (Baltimore Orioles) on Thursday afternoon at Delta Dental Stadium.
The Baysox scored twice in the ninth inning to break a 5-5 tie, rallying with three singles and a throwing error. Tyler Erwin (S, 7) worked around a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth from Brock Lundquist to close out the game for Bowie.
Trailing 5-1 in the seventh, the Fisher Cats put two men aboard with a fielding error at first base and a single by Lundquist. With two outs, Christian Williams doubled home a run to make it 5-2. Chad Spanberger then launched a game-tying three-run homer over the fence in right center.
The first six batters reached in the top of the first inning for the Baysox as they opened a 3-0 lead. Mason McCoy doubled and scored on a double by Austin Hays. Anderson Feliz doubled to drive in Hays and a sacrifice fly by Carlos Perez accounted for another tally.
Bowie extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the third inning. Feliz singled and stole second to start the inning. A single by Rylan Bannon moved Feliz to third. A sacrifice fly for Perez, his second of the game, drove in the run.
Nash Knight ripped the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth inning for a solo home run to put the Fisher Cats on the board. It was his third homer of the season.
Vinny Nittoli was New Hampshire's standout pitcher, tossing two innings of one-hit shutout relief with no walks and a strikeout.
The homestand continues on Friday at 6:35 p.m. with the first of three games with the Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants). An Atlas Fireworks Show presented by Manchester Community College will follow the game.
