Korey Holland launched two home runs and drove in four, but the Erie SeaWolves outlast the Akron RubberDucks 8-6 on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park.

Turning Point

After Erie tied the game with three in the sixth, they pulled ahead in the seventh. Chris Meyers lined a two-run home run off the batter's eye in center to put the SeaWolves on top 8-6.

Mound Presence

Doug Nikhazy got the start for Akron and ran into some trouble in the second. The SeaWolves got three in the inning on a sac-fly and two-run single, but the left-hander settled in to keep Erie scoreless the rest of the way. Nikhazy finished his day tossing five innings allowing three runs while striking out four. Trey Benton allowed three unearned runs in his inning of work. Bradley Hanner allowed two runs over an inning pitched. Jordan Jones and Tanner Burns each struck out one in their scoreless innings of work.

Duck Tales

Akron answered Erie's early runs in the fourth. Bryce Ball opened the inning with a single before Holland hit a towering fly ball into the bullpens for a two-run home run that cut Erie's lead to 3-2. After back-to-back singles by Joe Donovan and Cesar Idrogo, Gabriel Rodriguez lined a two-run double off the wall in left to give Akron the 4-3 lead. The RubberDucks added on to their lead in fifth when Ball kept the inning alive with a two-out walk. Holland made the SeaWolves pay for the walk by blasting his second two-run home run of the day over the FirstEnergy Power Alley to make it 6-3 Akron.
