
Powerful Pitching Propels 2-1 Victory over Rumble Ponies

Binghamton, New York - The Portland Sea Dogs (22-23, 62-52) win 2-1 in the series finale against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (22-22, 57-56) on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Portland is now in third place in the Northeast Division of the Eastern League, just 2.5 games out of first.
Nick Yorke dominated at the plate going three-for-four with a double (18) and a pair of singles while Tyler Dearden also recorded a multi-hit day going two-for-three with a pair of singles. Blaze Jordan also rocketed his fifth homer in Double-A. Grant Gambrell fired 6.0 innings one run ball before Jacob Webb and Alex Hoppe combined for a scoreless 2.0 innings in relief. Luis Guerrero pitched a scoreless ninth to record his league-leading seventeenth save of the season.
Jordan blasted his fifth homer of the season in the top of the third inning to put Portland on top 1-0 with the solo shot.
Binghamton plated one in the bottom of the fourth after an RBI triple from Agustin Ruiz tied the game at one.
Nick Yorke gave the Sea Dogs the 2-1 lead with an RBI single to left field in the top of the seventh to record his third hit of the day.
Portland starter RHP Grant Gambrell (6-3, 3.42 ERA) earned the win after pitching 6.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while walking three and striking out five. A pair of holds were issued to Jacob Webb (10) and Alex Hoppe (2) after each tossing a scoreless 1.0 inning in relief allowing one and one walk while striking out one. Luis Guerrero earned his league-leading 17th save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth allowing one hit while striking out two. He did not issue a walk. The loss was issued to Binghamton reliever RHP Daison Acosta (2-3, 6.11 ERA) after pitching 2.0 innings allowing one run on two hits while walking one and striking out two.
The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023 for a six-game series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. First pitch for game one is slated for 6:00pm. Both probable pitchers have yet to be announced.
