Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill. - The Rockford IceHogs couldn't carry the momentum after the All-Star break, dropping a 4-2 contest at the Allstate Arena on Friday, ending a streak in which the IceHogs had picked up points in seven straight contests.
With the score tied at 1-1 after the first period, Anton Rodin gave the Wolves their first lead of the game at the 13:54 mark in the middle frame. Mark Mancari sent a shot in on Carter Hutton and Rodin was there to clean up the rebound to make it a 2-1 game.
Just over a minute later, Chicago pushed the lead to two goals behind a Michael Davies' tally. Mark Matheson worked the puck around to Nolan Baumgartner, who sent a cross-ice pass for a wide open Davies to slap to the back of the net and extend the Wolves lead to 3-1 at 15:02 in the second.
The Wolves added to their lead in the final frame as Tim Miller deflected his second goal of the night past Hutton. Matheson fired a shot at the IceHogs net and Miller redirected it to light the lamp and put the score at 4-1.
The Hogs tried to make a late rally as Ben Youds blasted in his third goal of the season at 19:10 on the power play but it was too little, too late for Rockford.
Peter LeBlanc put Rockford on the board first just 1:26 into the game. Ben Smith sent a pass for LeBlanc to carry the puck into the Wolves zone. After crossing the line, LeBlanc ripped a shot past Eddie Lack to put the Hogs out in front 1-0.
Then, with time winding down in the opening period, Tim Miller tied the game at 1-1. J.P. Testwuide dished the puck to Miller and the winger slipped his 12th goal of the season under Hutton at 19:23 in the first period.
Hutton was tagged with his first regulation loss in six games, dating back to Jan. 14 at San Antonio. Lack picked up his 11th win of the season, turning away 30 Rockford attempts.
The IceHogs power play converted on one of their seven chances, while the Wolves went 0-for-5.
