Springfield Falcons News Release

The Springfield Falcons returned from the All Star break on Friday and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI. The Falcons now return home for back-to-back games against the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday and Sunday at the MassMutual Center.

The Falcons were looking to ride the momentum of a three game winning streak against the Bruins, but it was Providence that came out in the first period and built an early lead. Providence's Josh Hennessy scored on the Bruins first shot of the game just 1:12 into the first period giving the B's a 1-0 lead. The Falcons responded midway through the opening frame with a strong power play, but Providence goaltender Anton Khudobin made several key saves to maintain Providence's one goal lead.

In the second period, Providence expanded their advantage to 2-0 at 3:17 when Jamie Tardif tallied his 10th marker on the year. The Falcons cut their deficit to 2-1 at 7:10 of the middle frame when Dane Byers was set up by Alexandre Giroux on a breakaway and Byers finished off his 10th goal of the year. At 18:24 of the second period, the Bruins regained a two goal lead when Trent Whitfield scored his third goal of the year.

Providence added an insurance goal at 11:30 of the third period when Lane MacDermid tallied his fourth marker on the year.
