Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem Dash paid homage to team history and rebranded as the Warthogs for Saturday night's game five matchup with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws. Despite a quality start from Connor McCullough on the mound, the Warthogs fell 3-0 in front of 6,873 fans.

Winston-Salem threatened in the bottom of the second, putting runners on the corners with one out. The Warthogs couldn't cash in though, and Jersey Shore capitalized in the top of the third.

Leandro Pineda poked a leadoff solo shot over the right field wall to open the scoring, and Winston-Salem's bats continued to search for answers. As McCullough cruised, the Warthogs went down in order in the third and fourth.

The BlueClaws tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 3-0. McCullough spun an impressive outing overall, though, going six innings and giving up 2 earned runs, four hits and striking out nine to lower his ERA to 4.81.

The top of the order was retired for Winston-Salem in the sixth, and Everhett Hazelwood took the mound in relief for the seventh. Hazelwood worked a clean 1-2-3 frame, but the Warthogs couldn't manage any offense in the bottom of the inning.

Max Kuhns came out of the bullpen for the BlueClaws in the eighth and was nails. He struck out Taishi Nakawake, Caberea Weaver and Jacob Burke, who snapped his minor league-leading 52-game on-base streak with an 0-4 night at the plate.

Hazelwood tossed another shutout frame in the ninth, going three innings of two-hit, 0-run ball with four strikeouts in total. Wilfred Veras smacked a one-out double to center field in the bottom of the inning, but the Warthogs couldn't keep the momentum going.

Winston-Salem fell 3-0 and recorded just two hits after the second inning. McCullough was charged with the loss, and Jersey Shore's Matt Osterberg picked up the win after going six innings of four-hit, 0-run ball with five strikeouts.

Tommy McCollum earned his seventh save of the year with a clean ninth. With a 3-2 lead in the homestand, the Warthogs look to secure a series win heading into Sunday afternoon's clash. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. from Truist Stadium.
