New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - K.C. Hobson drove in his team-leading 31st run, and Jon Berti added another RBI for New Hampshire, but the Fisher Cats fell to the Binghamton Mets, 5-2, on Monday night. Despite the loss, the Fisher Cats took two of three from the Mets, and now get ready for their first series with the Portland Sea Dogs beginning Tuesday night.
The Fisher Cats (31-37) opened the scoring with Berti and Hobson providing the runs in the bottom of the third. With runners at the corners, Dwight Smith, Jr. loaded the bases for Berti, who bounced into a force out to break the scoreless tie at 1-0. Hobson followed with a two-out single to center to push the advantage to 2-0.
The Mets (36-32) answered right back in the top of the fourth with two runs against Casey Lawrence (L; 5-8). With one out, Brock Peterson doubled home Michael Conforto for the first run. A walk and a single loaded the bases for Jared King, who bounced a single to right field to even it up at 2-2.
It stayed tied until the seventh when the Mets took the lead against Lawrence. With one out, catcher Albert Cordero belted his first Double-A home run to right to push Binghamton on top, 3-2. Lawrence left two batters later, allowing three runs over 6.2 innings.
The Fisher Cats didn't have many opportunities outside of the third inning against starter Gabriel Ynoa (W; 4-4). They managed just three hits - all in the third - until a Matt Newman double knocked Ynoa out of the game in the seventh. The righty earned the win by allowing two runs over 6.2 innings, surrendering four hits and two walks without registering a strikeout.
Binghamton put the game out of reach in the ninth when Peterson hit a two-run double against reliever Chad Girodo. The runs were unearned, but they belonged to Jimmy Cordero who was victimized by an error, but compounded the mistake with a walk and a hit batter.
The Fisher Cats now open a new series - their first of the year - with the Future Red Sox, the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday night. The first 1,000 fans receive a retro Fisher Cats hat thanks to Mt. Washington Assurance. Tickets are available at www.nhfishercats.com, by calling 603-641-2005, and by visiting the stadium box office.
The pitching match-up for the opener features righty Taylor Cole against Portland righty William Cuevas. Radio coverage of the game begins at 6:45 p.m. with Tom Gauthier and Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and at www.nhfishercats.com.
