Eastern League Weekly Award Winners Announced

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of June 15th through June 21st:

Bowie Baysox first baseman Trey Mancini has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 15th-June 21st. The 23-year old hit .444 (8-for-18) with two doubles, one triple, one home run, four RBIs, four runs scored, one stolen base, two walks and a .833 slugging percentage in six games for the Baysox last week. Mancini, who is a native of Winter Haven, Florida, reached base in five of the six games he played in last week and had multiple hits in four of those games, including going 2-for-4 with a home run in Bowie's 6-3 win over the visiting Trenton Thunder on Sunday afternoon. The 6'4", 215 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in slugging percentage (.833) last week and tied for the league lead in triples (1). He also ranked among the weekly leaders in OPS (1.333-2nd), total bases (15-tied 2nd), extra-base hits (4-tied 3rd), on-base percentage (.500-tied 3rd), home runs (1-tied 5th), batting average (.444-6th), runs scored (4-tied 7th), doubles (2-tied 7th), RBI (4-tied 9th) and hits (8-tied 10th). Trey, who is hitting .377 in 15 games for the Baysox since being promoted from Class-A Frederick earlier this month, was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the eighth round of the 2013 draft after batting .389 during his junior season at the University of Notre Dame.

Matt Flemer, a right-handed starting pitcher for the New Britain Rock Cats, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 15th-June 21st. The 6'2", 210 lb. hurler started one game for the Rock Cats last week and posted a record of 1-0 with five strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Flemer, who is a native of El Cerrito, California, made his lone start of the week on Thursday night against the visiting Bowie Baysox and came within one out of tossing a complete game shutout in a 2-0 New Britain win. He struck out five batters and walked two while giving up two hits over 8.2 innings of work. Flemer, who threw 70 of his 107 pitches for strikes in the win, was removed from the game after giving up a single with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. The 24-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in batting average against (.074) and tied for the lead in ERA (0.00). He also ranked among the weekly leaders in WHIP (0.40-2nd), wins (1-tied 2nd) and innings pitched (8.2-7th). Matt, who has a record of 2-3 with a 3.56 ERA in 13 starts for the Rock Cats this season, was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 27th round of the 2012 draft after going 7-5 with 66 strikeouts and a 2.58 ERA in 16 games, 15 starts, during his senior season at the University of California-Berkeley.
