Hitmen Lift Lid on Preseason with 4-3 Win

Regina, SK - The Calgary Hitmen opened their seven-game 2015 WHL pre-season schedule with a 4-3 win over the Regina Pats Thursday night at the Co-operators Centre.

Jake Bean and Layne Bensmiller both had a goal and an assist to lead the Hitmen scoring attack while Beck Malenstyn and Carsen Twarynski also netted goals for Calgary who used a strong first period to build a 4-1 lead.

Jakob LaPointe, Drea Esposito and Loch Morrison all had in an assist in the victory with Kyle Dumba and Lasse Petersen splitting the goaltending duties. Dumba got the start and made 13 saves on 15 shots in just over 33 minutes of work while Petersen stopped eight of nine Regina shots in a relief appearance.

The Hitmen, playing their first of three games in as many days, outshot the Pats 35-24 and went 1-5 on the powerplay while killing all four Regina chances.

Calgary is back on the ice tomorrow afternoon (Friday, Sept. 4, 3 p.m.) against the Moose Jaw Warriors before wrapping up the Regina Pats Rookie Showcase on Saturday (Sept. 5, 2 p.m.) against the Prince Albert Raiders.

The pre-season schedule also features the first-ever exhibition game at the Scotiabank Saddledome when the Hitmen host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Sunday, Sept. 13 in a 3:00 p.m. start. Tickets, $5 for adults and $2 for kids 12 and under (includes convenience fees), are available now at Ticketmaster locations and the Scotiabank Saddledome box office.

Calgary will then begin their 72-game 2015-16 regular season schedule with a home-and-home series against the Kootenay ICE. It begins on Friday, September 25 in Cranbrook before returning to the Scotiabank Saddledome for the Adrenalin Source For Sports Home Opener on Saturday, September 26. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
