Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings Rookie Camp has come to a close at Westman Communications Group Place, setting the stage for what should be an exciting weekend of hockey as Main Camp kicks off first thing Friday.

The 2-day camp concluded Thursday night with Team Gold scoring a 7-3 victory.

Goals by Marcus Sekundiak, Brady Castellano, Ty Lewis and James McIsaac snapped a 3-3 tie as the Golds won the third and final scrimmage between the two teams.

McIsaac's goal capped a 3-goal night for the 16-year old Winnipegger, who scored seventeen goals and 30 points last season with the Winnipeg AAA Midget Thrashers. McIsaac was Brandon's sixth round selection in last year's Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

In addition to his late goal Thursday night, Sekundiak added another earlier and scored three more in the morning scrimmage, won by Team Gold 8-2.

Lynden McCallum, Jeremy Klessens and Stelio Mattheos - the WHL's first overall bantam selection in 2014 - scored in a losing cause for the Whites, who were outshot 44-41.

Wheat Kings' Main Camp gets underway Friday morning with two on ice sessions, followed by a scrimmage game at 6:30pm.

This year's Main Camp concludes Sunday afternoon at 2pm when the hockey club presents its Annual Canad Inns Intrasquad Game. The Wheat Kings will open up a 4-game pre-season schedule next Friday night against the visiting Regina Pats.

Tickets to both of Brandon's pre-season home games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com

Winners of the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as the WHL's Regular Season Champions in 2014-15, the Wheat Kings could return as many as nineteen players this season.
