Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen closed out the weekend with RE/MAX presents Nickelodeon Day in support of the Children's Miracle Network. Calgary welcomed the Regina Pats wearing special PAW Patrol themed jerseys.
Despite putting up 52 shots, Calgary fell to Regina 4-3 in overtime. Regina netted the lone goal of the first period from Sam Oremba who would later follow up with his second of the game 44 seconds into the second period to make it 2-0. Calgary would finally get on the board a minute later with one from Carter Yakemchuk cutting the lead in half. Regina's third goal would come from Tye Spencer on the power play five minutes into the final frame.
Yakemchuk answered back once again putting Calgary within one for his second of the game. The defenceman is the first blueliner in the WHL to record 20 goals this season, officially hitting a career high.
With under four minutes to play, Ben Kindel tied it up on a wrap around forcing the game to overtime. It would be Tye Spencer who would find the back of the net on a breakaway for his second of the night to win it for Regina.
Picking up a point in the contest, Calgary moves into sole possession of the eighth and final playoff spot, sitting only two points back of the Lethbridge Hurricanes for seventh in the Eastern Conference.
Calgary wore special Paw Patrol theme jerseys that are currently up for bid at elevateauctions.com/pawpatrol with proceeds to support the Children's Miracle Network and the Alberta Children's Hospital. Bidding closes at 8:00 p.m. MST on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
